About The Position

The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Director of Sports Medicine in the overall management and operation of Rivier University’s sports medicine program, working with 15 NCAA III varsity intercollegiate teams. This role provides for the prevention, evaluation, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for Rivier University’s teams. This is a full-time, 10-month position reporting to the Director of Athletics and the Director of Sports Medicine. The position requires the ability to work evenings and weekends, with indoor and outdoor work and occasional travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • BOC certification required
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification required
  • NH State Athletic Trainer license (or eligible) required
  • Well organized and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid Driver’s license required
  • Self-starter, ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to advocate for and support the academic, personal, and professional needs of the University.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff and maintain collegial relations.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in an emerging and changing environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage confidential information.
  • Computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, and reporting platforms, as well as online calendaring and email.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • CSCS or NASM certification preferred
  • Experience in a college/university training room preferred
  • Basic familiarity with social media applications a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Providing for the prevention, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for NCAA III program with 15 varsity intercollegiate teams.
  • Preparing for and providing coverage for all home games and practices for 15 intercollegiate teams.
  • Administering CPR, AED, and first-aid when necessary.
  • Administering emergency care as needed.
  • Coordinating treatment and rehabilitation for athletic injuries as needed.
  • Administering all records, screenings as needed and maintaining accurate reports on all students treated in appropriate time frames.
  • Maintaining appropriate records, reports, and information as needed for the University, insurance, legal or professional purposes.
  • Communicating and collaborating with the team physician and other medical staff, as needed to ensure proper evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injured student athletes.
  • Maintaining collaborative working relationships with administrators and coaches and other university constituents as needed.
  • Communicating effectively with coaches and student-athletes regarding injuries and playing status.
  • Coordinating the transportation of student-athletes to doctor, hospital, etc., when needed.
  • Collaborating with Rivier coaching staff in developing conditioning, weight training, nutrition programs for student-athletes as needed.
  • Keeping current with and following NCAA and GNAC rules, regulations, and best practices.
  • Following the NATA Code of Ethics.
  • Remaining current on all state and national requirements for licensure.
  • Collaborating with the Director of Sports Medicine to recommend supplies and equipment as needed within budget.
  • Representing Rivier, GNAC, NCAA on any committees as needed.
  • Contributing as a member of Rivier University Athletics Department staff with other duties as required.
  • Responsible for reporting to the Title IX Coordinator knowledge or receipt of reports of discrimination, sexual misconduct, gender-based violence, discriminatory harassment, and retaliation from students or other members of the University community.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to equity and inclusion and ability to work collaboratively with other members of the Rivier Athletics Department and other university departments.
