About The Position

This position involves assisting the team physician and Head Athletic Trainer in managing athlete injuries and illnesses, implementing rehabilitation procedures, and ensuring the safety and well-being of student athletes. The role requires attending practices and contests, communicating with various stakeholders, and assisting with conditioning and injury prevention programs. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will also help with training room operations, budget management, and emergency response protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university.
  • Licensed as an Athletic Trainer by the Texas Department of Health.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • National Athletic Trainers' Association certification preferred.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage acute injury or illness to athletes under the supervision of the team physician and Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Implement rehabilitation procedures for athletes.
  • Operate therapeutic devices and equipment.
  • Apply braces, guards, tape, and other devices to athletes.
  • Make referrals to physicians, health services, or hospitals.
  • Maintain medical records on athletes.
  • Coordinate annual athletic physicals.
  • Assist in planning and implementing a comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention program.
  • Attend practice sessions and athletic contests as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with students, parents, medical personnel, coaches, and staff.
  • Assist in providing physical conditioning training to student athletes.
  • Prepare athletes for games and practices by conducting evaluations and using protective devices.
  • Respond to emergencies, identify acute injuries, make independent judgments, and provide first-aid triage.
  • Establish procedures for coaches or assistant trainers in medical emergencies.
  • Detect and resolve environmental risks to athletes.
  • Determine therapeutic goals and objectives for individual athletes and plan rehabilitation programs.
  • Apply therapeutic modalities and instruct athletes on exercise equipment use.
  • Select, train, and supervise student assistants.
  • Assist in revising and implementing the annual sports medicine program budget.
  • Conduct annual CPR, AED, and first aid training and recertification for district personnel.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and documents, including medical, accident, and treatment records.
  • Oversee training room operations, including maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Requisition additional supplies as needed.
  • Ensure regular and reliable attendance, which is an essential job function.
