About The Position

Shenandoah University’s Department of Athletics is accepting applications for an Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of a large range of medical problems.
  • Assessment and evaluation skills.
  • Ability to work with other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
  • Thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation with an electronic medical records system.
  • Ability to coordinate and schedule medical coverage for practices and events.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in high-stress/pressure situations when talking to student-athletes, medical professionals, staff, and families.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses include prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation.
  • Assess the risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation, and overall wellness promotion.
  • Electronic documentation of all student-athlete encounters.
  • Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and preventative strategies and programs customized to each student-athlete.
  • Minimize the risk of injury through awareness, education, and prevention strategies.
  • Mentor students in the graduate athletic program and supervise students participating in the federal work-study program.
  • Follow the NATA Code of Ethics as well as understand and follow HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
  • Remain current on all Virginia state and national requirements for license renewal.
  • Comply with all University, ODAC, and NCAA bylaws and legislation.
  • Perform other duties and secondary duties as assigned by the supervising head athletic trainer for the operation of the athletic department and/or the athletic training department.
