The Assistant Athletic Trainer position is responsible for the prevention, recognition, management, and rehabilitation of injuries incurred by athletes for assigned sport(s). This role provides daily medical coverage to members of the Track & Field/Cross Country program, including injury prevention, recognition & assessment, injury treatment & rehabilitation, and referrals for athletic & non-athletic injuries and ailments. The position also maintains all medical records in accordance with federal and state regulations, emergency action plans for practice and competition venues, and coordinates transportation to medical appointments. The Assistant Athletic Trainer must maintain current knowledge of policy and procedures in accordance with national best practices, NCAA and SEC rules and regulations, and adheres to conference guidelines. They will also collaborate with ADAP, Sports Psychology and Counseling, and Performance Nutrition for the betterment of the whole athlete, assist with Pre-Participation Exams, and serve as medical coordinator for post-season events hosted by LSU. Additionally, this role provides management and communication for on-site physical therapy and chiropractic sessions, acts as a preceptor for Athletic Training Students, and supervises intern athletic trainers. The position also supports LSU and Athletics Department initiatives through participation in educational and developmental opportunities and contributes to a respectful culture.
