The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) at the University of New Mexico (UNM) is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Stable Isotope Geochemistry. The position begins in August 2027. The successful candidate will be a scientist who utilizes stable isotopic methods to investigate fundamental questions about Earth or other planetary systems. This role involves developing an independent, externally funded research program and contributing to the UNM Center for Stable Isotopes (CSI). Key responsibilities include hands-on experience with stable isotope instrumentation, laboratory techniques, and analytical workflows, particularly isotope-ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS) and laser-based approaches. The candidate should be committed to advancing analytical capabilities through instrument development, calibration, quality control, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The new faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in geochemistry and related fields, advise students, and participate in departmental service. Collaboration across disciplines, training students and users in stable isotope methods, and developing new analytical capabilities within CSI are also expected. Opportunities exist to contribute to the IsoCamp summer course and potentially take a leadership role in CSI.
