About The Position

Simmons University, located in Boston's historic Fenway area, is seeking applicants for a full-time, Boston-based, 12-month contract faculty position in the DPT program, beginning August 1st, 2026. The Physical Therapy program at Simmons has a history of over 50 years, employing a problem-based, self-directed learning approach using case studies. Faculty are leaders in their fields, acting as personal mentors and guides, and many engage in collaborative research with local R1 institutions and medical labs. Requirements

  • A doctoral degree in physical therapy (DPT) or a related field is required.
  • Active, unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in any United States jurisdiction.
  • Evidence of excellence in professional practice.
  • At least 5 years of applicable clinical experience for Assistant Professor of Practice.
  • At least 10 years of applicable clinical experience for Associate Professor of Practice.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the university community.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching at the graduate level is preferable.
  • Applicants seeking to begin a career in higher education should also consider this opportunity.
  • A terminal academic doctorate (PhD, EdD, ScD, etc.) is preferred.
  • ABPTS specialty certification is desirable.
  • Physical therapy teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in line with research and clinical expertise, with desirable areas including neurological physical therapy, therapeutic modalities, orthotics and prosthetics, and/or assist in systems-based laboratory or tutorials with a preference toward inpatient expertise.
  • Advise and mentor graduate students.
  • Participate in curriculum development.
  • Actively serve the Simmons community.
