About The Position

The Department of Educator Preparation in the Stout School of Education at High Point University invites applications for a renewable 9-month, full-time, non-tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Mathematics Education, effective August 3, 2026. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service, with a workload distribution of 60% teaching, 20% scholarship, and 20% service.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate in Mathematics Education, Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in mathematics, or a closely related field (ABD considered for Assistant Professor rank).
  • Demonstrated expertise in teaching mathematics methods across multiple grade levels (elementary, middle, and/or secondary).
  • Record of or strong potential for scholarly productivity.
  • Commitment to collaboration, innovation, and excellence in educator preparation.

Nice To Haves

  • Full or part-time experience teaching in higher education.
  • Experience working with various learners and all-encompassing teaching practices.
  • Familiarity with North Carolina standards and licensure requirements.
  • Experience integrating learning technologies and data-informed practices in mathematics instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in mathematics methods for elementary, middle grades, and secondary education programs.
  • Teach Freshman discovery, interdisciplinary, service learning, and honors courses.
  • Chair doctoral dissertation committees (depending on experience).
  • Design and deliver engaging, field-based, and clinically rich learning experiences aligned with North Carolina teaching standards.
  • Supervise and mentor teacher candidates in clinical and field placements.
  • Integrate innovative instructional practices and learning technologies into coursework.
  • Maintain an active agenda of scholarly research, including scholarship of the practice, related to mathematics education, teacher preparation, or a related field.
  • Disseminate research through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and other scholarly outlets.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on research initiatives and external funding opportunities.
  • Advise and mentor a caseload of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Contribute to program development, accreditation efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives within the School of Education.
  • Participate in university, school, departmental, and committee meetings and initiatives.
  • Engage with local schools, districts, and community partners to support clinical experiences and outreach.
  • Support recruitment, advising, and retention of teacher candidates.
