About The Position

Talladega College seeks an experienced, visionary faculty member to serve as Assistant or Associate Professor of Mass Media Studies, to begin August 2, 2026. For candidates demonstrating an exceptional track record of prior academic leadership and administrative excellence, this position may be expanded to include leadership responsibilities as the Chair of Humanities, overseeing a broader portfolio of degree programs within the School of Humanities and Fine Arts. The successful candidate must hold an earned Ph.D. in journalism, mass communications, mass media studies, or a closely related field, and possess robust teaching experience at the collegiate level.

Requirements

  • Earned Ph.D. in journalism, mass communications, mass media studies, or a highly related field from an accredited institution
  • Proven track record of successful classroom instructional experience at the collegiate level, with demonstrated success in implementing innovative pedagogy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Demonstrated success in developing, assessing, and evaluating academic programs
  • Proficient in using educational and administrative technology as a management and reporting tool

Responsibilities

  • Teach discipline-specific in-person and blended courses
  • Implement innovative pedagogy in various facets of mass media
  • Actively provide academic advisement and collaborate to recruit and retain students
  • Recommend courses to be offered in the department each semester
  • Adhere to College policies and procedures
  • Develop and assess degree programs and student learning outcomes
  • Maintain course learning management systems
  • Review and recommend revisions to department catalog content
  • Project a professional, positive, and upbeat disposition
  • Meet established deadlines
  • Utilize and remain current with the College’s instructional technologies
  • Participate in required Faculty, Department, School, and College meetings
  • Serve on School-and College-wide committees, collaborating closely with administration
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Recommend, design, and manage the schedule of classes to be offered each semester, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and student needs (if appointed as Chair of Humanities)
  • Lead recruitment and retention initiatives across disciplines (if appointed as Chair of Humanities)
  • Teach a reduced course load as determined by the School Dean (if appointed as Chair of Humanities)
  • Supervise senior projects in collaboration with Faculty (if appointed as Chair of Humanities)
  • Coordinate and oversee academic program reviews (if appointed as Chair of Humanities)
  • Provide oversight for Liberal Arts, English, History, and Mass Media Studies degree programs (if appointed as Chair of Humanities)
  • Manage department budgets responsibly (if appointed as Chair of Humanities)
  • Oversee compliance with national, state, and regional accreditation standards (if appointed as Chair of Humanities)
  • Administer college policies and procedures effectively (if appointed as Chair of Humanities)
  • Communicate department needs and decisions (if appointed as Chair of Humanities)
  • Maintain open lines of communication among department faculty/staff (if appointed as Chair of Humanities)
  • Recommend catalog updates as appropriate for evolving discipline-specific program needs (if appointed as Chair of Humanities)
  • Perform leadership duties as assigned by the Dean (if appointed as Chair of Humanities)
