About The Position

The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) at the University of Florida is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor in Nutritional Sciences. This is a 9-month tenure-accruing position with a 70% research and 30% teaching assignment within the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department. The role involves developing or continuing a strong research program focusing on human health and disease related to nutrition, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in nutritional sciences (both online and in-person), advising students, supervising research, and seeking contract and grant funding. Faculty are expected to support all three mission areas of the Land-Grant system: Research, Teaching, and Extension, and engage in scholarly activities related to instruction. The department is part of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and has a strong history of research and a robust graduate program. Faculty collaborate with colleagues across various colleges and research institutes at the University of Florida.

Requirements

  • A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in nutritional sciences, biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrate communication skills by scientific presentations, outreach, and a publication record for expected rank.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external peers.
  • Ability to develop and sustain an extramurally funded research program.

Nice To Haves

  • Postdoctoral experience is desirable.
  • Previous university- or college-level teaching experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop or continue a strong research program focusing on human health and disease related to nutrition.
  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses within nutritional sciences in both online and in-person modalities.
  • Participate in undergraduate education and advising.
  • Chair graduate committees and serve on other graduate committees.
  • Supervise thesis and dissertation research.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postdoctoral research and publish with graduate students.
  • Seek contract and grant funding to support their program.
  • Support Extension activities in their program area.
  • Engage in scholarly activities related to instruction, including curriculum revision, producing learning tools, and professional development.
  • Support and participate in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Honors Program, distance and international education.
