About The Position

This is a temporary, non-tenure track position for an Assistant/Associate Professor in Hematology/Oncology Core. The role involves curriculum development, administration, and evaluation for fellows' education, teaching various levels of medical professionals, supervising fellows, and ensuring high-quality patient care. The position requires a commitment to education, research, and scholarly activities, and participation in various committees. The role is part-time with a full-time equivalency of 0.05 FTE, annually renewable subject to performance and funding, with a potential for FTE increase based on program needs. The position is expected to begin around June 22, 2026.

Requirements

  • MD degree or equivalent medical degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Maintaining board certification in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology through the American Board of Internal Medicine.
  • Valid Hawaii Medical license by date of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability in teaching and patient care.
  • Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • For Associate Professor: Four years in the rank of Assistant Professor, or four years of other health care experience, or a total of four years of teaching in the rank of Assistant Professor and other experience, or one year at the rank of Associate Professor at another health care school of recognized standing.
  • Proven ability in teaching, research, and program administration (for Associate Professor).
  • Recognition for having made a significant scholarly contribution to the clinical specialty (for Associate Professor).
  • Ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues (for Associate Professor).
  • Evidence of excellent patient care in a collaborative environment (for Associate Professor).
  • Experience in academic and/or clinical program administration (for Associate Professor).
  • Evidence of excellent team building and interpersonal skills (for Associate Professor).
  • Experience functioning in a complex system of multiple organizations and stakeholders (for Associate Professor).
  • Familiarity with Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements (for Associate Professor).

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience with curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Eligibility for clinical privileges at The Queen’s Health Systems or Hawaii Pacific Health.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development and evaluation, provider of educational activities as required by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for curriculum, administration, and evaluation in hematology/oncology fellow education.
  • Assists with the development, support, and attainment of goals and objectives to support the fellowship.
  • Teach medical students, graduate students, post-graduate residents, fellows, and faculty, providing real-time formative feedback and upholding professionalism.
  • Directly supervise fellows in inpatient consult services and outpatient continuity clinics.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the delivery of safe, equitable, high-quality, cost-effective, patient-centered care.
  • Teach and ensure competency in specialty procedures such as bone marrow biopsy, intrathecal chemotherapy, and appropriate administration of oncolytics and chemotherapy.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the education of fellow physicians in all other competencies pertinent to the subspeciality and serve as a role model of professionalism.
  • Administer and maintain an educational environment conductive to educating fellows.
  • Regularly participate in organized clinical discussions, rounds, journal clubs, and conferences.
  • Participate in faculty development.
  • Conduct and promote research and scholarly activities.
  • Serve on Clinical Competency Committee and Program Evaluation Committee.
