About The Position

The Medical Assistant provides high quality, direct patient care in a team-based model to our Mount Auburn Medical Oncology/ Hematology patients and supports smooth and efficient administrative and clinical practice operations. The Medical Assistant has the ability to work with people from different backgrounds and respects the beliefs of all patients and team members. Reports to the Practice Manager. Phlebotomy experience is preferred. Join a collaborative outpatient Hematology/Oncology practice supporting patients receiving care for cancer and benign blood disorders. As a Medical Assistant, you will room patients, complete detailed medication reconciliation, perform phlebotomy, obtain vital signs, and help maintain a safe and efficient patient flow. The practice provides outpatient medical oncology and benign hematology care. Patients may be receiving care for: Cancer Iron deficiency, including iron deficiency during pregnancy Blood clotting concerns and DVT or pulmonary embolism follow-up Other blood disorders The clinic may see approximately 40–50 patients on a busy day. Many patients return regularly, allowing team members to build meaningful relationships with them over time. You will join an established team that includes experienced Medical Assistants, nurses, physicians, nurse practitioners, and other clinical professionals. The providers are engaged, collaborative, and committed to helping staff understand the reasons behind each patient’s care plan. The department also offers wellness programming for patients and staff through its integrative therapy program. This role provides meaningful exposure to Hematology and Oncology while allowing you to build ongoing relationships with patients and contribute directly to their care experience.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 0-1 years related work experience required.
  • Demonstrated Medical Assistant (MA) competencies within one year of hire.
  • Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Science preferred.
  • License Medical Assistant Certificate preferred.
  • Registration Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • Certificate 1 EMT Basic License preferred.
  • Certificate 2 Phlebotomy Certificate preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant
  • Phlebotomy experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and room patients for Hematology and Oncology appointments
  • Obtain and document accurate vital signs, height, and weight
  • Review and update medication and allergy lists
  • Complete thorough medication reconciliation for patients with complex medication regimens
  • Communicate the reason for the visit, abnormal vital signs, and other relevant information to the provider
  • Perform phlebotomy and other assigned Medical Assistant duties under appropriate supervision
  • Help manage patient flow and communicate delays
  • Accurately document completed tasks in the electronic health record
  • Queue prescription renewals and enter orders as directed by a licensed provider
  • Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked exam rooms
  • Monitor supplies and equipment for cleanliness, function, and expiration dates
  • Support patient safety, confidentiality, and OSHA compliance
  • Collaborate with the lead Medical Assistant, nurses, physicians, nurse practitioners, and other members of the care team
