About The Position

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry’s Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Anesthesiology invites applications for a full-time faculty dentist anesthesiologist as a clinical track Assistant or Associate Professor in the dental anesthesiology section to serve as the program director. The responsibilities of the position include pre-doctoral and resident education with an emphasis in anesthesiology and pharmacology, as well as participating in the school’s intramural practice. In the capacity as the program director, candidates should provide leadership and management in a number of areas including but not limited to: operational oversight over the dental anesthesia program, ensure compliance with CODA accreditation standards, supervision of residents training at the COD and affiliated institutions, and engage in college, university and national professional services as appropriate for the academic rank. Candidates must also possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to create an environment that promotes collegiality, collaboration, and cultural diversity among members of various educational, research, and service-related communities. A willingness to serve as a role model and advocate for the ideals of professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting is essential. Qualified candidates may pursue a dual appointment in the Department of Anesthesiology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC), which includes the opportunity to practice in the hospital’s main operating rooms. Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - faculty positions within the university that are not tenure track and not eligible for tenure; on a fixed term contract. Persons with the title of professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical, assistant professor-clinical and instructor-clinical. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty department and, as appropriate, regional campus; Clinical faculty are teacher/practitioners and will be engaged primarily in teaching activities. These faculty normally have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field or equivalent experience. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Requirements

  • DDS/DMD degree from an institution accredited by CODA.
  • Completion of a minimum of two years in a dental anesthesiology residency program accredited by CODA or accepted by the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology.
  • Extensive experience in providing general anesthesia and sedation for diverse dental and maxillofacial surgical procedures on patients of all ages, including pediatrics.
  • Ability to function in diverse patient care environments, including hospital and ambulatory settings.
  • Board certified or an active candidate for certification in dental anesthesiology.
  • Eligible for dental licensure with a General Anesthesia endorsement in Ohio.

Nice To Haves
