About The Position

The Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC), in conjunction with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto is seeking one full-time Academic Malignant Hematologist. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment with an academic position description of Clinician Investigator, Clinician Teacher or Clinician-in-Quality and Innovation at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. The position includes clinical responsibilities for inpatient and outpatient care at SHSC and OCC, participation in the hematology call roster, and management of acute myeloid malignancies and patients who have completed autologous stem cell transplants. The Odette Cancer Centre (OCC) is part of SHSC, a University of Toronto fully-affiliated site, and is one of the largest comprehensive cancer centres in the country, with activities that span the spectrum of cancer control. The OCC is a leader in patient care, clinical trials, patient and professional education. It also has strong collaborative links with basic scientists at the Sunnybrook Research Institute. Requirements

  • Eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment with an academic position description of Clinician Investigator, Clinician Teacher or Clinician-in-Quality and Innovation at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at the University of Toronto.
  • Experience and proficiency in lymphoid and myeloid malignancies is required, with particular expertise in the comprehensive management of lymphomas (including cutaneous T-cell lymphomas), multiple myeloma/amyloidosis, CLL, and Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia.
  • Hold a MD degree, or equivalent.
  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
  • Fellowship certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in both Internal Medicine and Malignant Hematology, or have comparable qualifications.
  • A master’s degree (or equivalent advanced training).
  • A minimum of a 2-year Malignant Hematology Fellowship is also required.
  • Proficiency in English is a requirement for this job.

  • Candidates pursuing a Clinician in Quality and Innovation appointment must have advanced training in quality improvement or innovation together with evidence of scholarship, such as peer-reviewed publications, presentations, or awards.
  • Candidates pursuing a Clinician Teacher appointment must demonstrate advanced training and achievement in teaching through a strong educational portfolio, teaching awards, curriculum development, or education scholarship.

Responsibilities

  • Inpatient and outpatient care at SHSC and OCC.
  • Participation in the hematology call roster, including management of acute myeloid malignancies and patients who have completed autologous stem cell transplants.
  • Contribute to the clinical and academic activities of the Odette Cancer Centre (OCC).
  • Foster academic excellence.
