About The Position

The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator and writer, with strong knowledge dissemination skills, specifically the ability to transform academic and technical findings into simple, accessible language for a range of stakeholders, including audiences with and without scientific knowledge. They will have published in the areas of food science, food chemistry, food sensory science, and sensory evaluation. The role requires extensive experience working with students in classroom and laboratory settings, specifically related to training in food science, food safety, food chemistry, product development, and sensory evaluation. Extensive knowledge of Compusense software and Design Expert is necessary. The position also requires strategic vision and planning skills for the development of online learning expectations for the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, experience in curriculum development and the design of online or blended learning materials, and experience developing learning activities, assessment methods, and student-facing educational resources. Strong organizational and project-management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple teaching, research, and industry-related activities, are essential. Experience engaging with industry, community, and/or government stakeholders in the agri-food sector is also required. The successful applicant may be able to communicate effectively in English and French.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and lead online learning expectations for Master of Food Science with a focus on Food Safety (Non-thesis), primarily focused on food chemistry, food product development, sensory evaluation, and food safety principals.
  • Develop, update, and support online learning modules, course materials, and experiential learning content related to food science, food safety, product development, and sensory evaluation.
  • Supervise and manage a team of students (undergraduate and graduate) and research assistances for experiential learning activities, primarily, hands-on formulation projects between students and industry stakeholders; produce financial tracking and reporting related to these projects.
  • Build and grow successful relationships with a diverse group of researchers across the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Science, and stakeholders working on food formulation and food safety.
  • Coordinate experiential learning activities with industry partners, including project planning, student supervision, deliverables, timelines, and reporting.
  • Support student training in laboratory safety, food safety, sensory evaluation protocols, and good laboratory practices.
  • Provide general support to the Department of Food Science and School of Human Nutrition for teaching of Food Science related content when needed.
  • Provide general support to research activities when needed.
