About The Position

The University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Information School seeks multiple tenure-track or tenured faculty members across all areas of library and information science and closely related fields. Positions are academic nine-month appointments at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, beginning in August 2027. The appointments are ongoing and renewable. The position is based in person at a designated campus work location. The Information School is part of UW–Madison’s College of Computing & Artificial Intelligence (CAI), a new college that brings together Computer Sciences, Statistics, and the Information School. CAI supports interdisciplinary research and education in computing, data, information, and artificial intelligence, and is expanding its faculty and research enterprise. The Information School offers an undergraduate major in Information Science, two professional master’s programs, and a PhD program. Applicants from all areas of library and information science are welcome; the school especially encourages scholars addressing challenges at the intersection of information, people, technology, and society, including artificial intelligence, algorithmic systems, information infrastructures, and civic technologies. Faculty conduct research and publish in high-quality peer-reviewed venues; seek external funding appropriate to their research area; teach undergraduate and graduate courses; advise master’s and PhD students; and contribute service to the department, university, and profession. They are expected to support equity through their teaching, research, and service. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching and scholarly research. Tenured appointments additionally require excellence in research, teaching, and service, along with ongoing success in obtaining extramural funding appropriate to the discipline. Candidates must have a PhD in Information Sciences or a closely related field by the appointment start date. Applications must be submitted through UW–Madison’s online system and include a letter of application describing the research program, a curriculum vitae, a teaching and mentoring statement, and one writing sample. Applicants may also submit evidence of teaching excellence, such as course syllabi and teaching-evaluation summaries. Applicants must provide the names and contact information for three professional references; references are requested electronically from candidates advancing in the process. To ensure full consideration, materials must be received by 11:59 p.m. on December 1, 2026. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled. Compensation is negotiable depending on qualifications. Employees can expect generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurance and savings accounts; and retirement benefits.
