The University of Florida is hiring a Rheumatology faculty member at the assistant, associate, or full professor level. Responsibilities include inpatient and outpatient patient care and supervision and teaching of Rheumatology fellows, residents, and medical students. In addition to general rheumatology clinics, the successful applicant will participate in a weekly half-day multidisciplinary clinic specializing in either muscle disease or vasculitis and collaborate with a basic scientist as a clinical mentor to one or more research trainees in the NIH-funded T32 training program. An interest in translational research is highly desirable. The faculty position is based at the University teaching hospital, with a potential option for part-time patient care duties at the immediately adjacent VA Hospital. Both hospitals serve a designated shortage area and/or medically underserved area or population. The department describes a collaborative relationship with Shands Hospital and emphasizes professional, cooperative interdisciplinary care. Substantial start-up packages are available for appropriate research applicants. Professional development resources at the University of Florida Health Sciences Center include leadership, education, and research tracks within a Clinical Translational Science Institute, formal mentorship programs, and supported teaching and research opportunities. The Gainesville area is described as having favorable weather, inexpensive living, nationally ranked schools, and year-round recreational opportunities.
