About The Position

Northeastern University is a national leader in cooperative education, where students alternate between academic study and work experiences. The Office of the Chancellor is seeking a Co-op Coordinator to work with students, with an initial focus on Khoury College of Computer Sciences. This position is a full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month faculty position. The successful candidate will join a team of highly motivated, professional, collaborative individuals who provide an outstanding cooperative education program to the students of Khoury College.

Requirements

A master’s degree in college student development, counseling, education, psychology or an industry-related field, required by the appointment start date.
A minimum of three years of work experience.
Teaching experience in a classroom environment or comparable experience with presentation skills in a business or workshop environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, and comfort presenting to diverse audiences.
Experience working with a varied staff and/or student population.
Proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Knowledge and appreciation of cooperative education and/or experiential learning and its impact on an individual’s career development.
Ability to effectively engage a diverse network of global stakeholders, across time zones.

Nice To Haves

An academic degree in a related tech profession.
Experience in career development and counseling of tech students.
Experience as a career coach (certification preferable, but not required).
Professional experience within the tech industry.

Responsibilities

Guides students through their career development and co-op experiences by educating, advising, and coaching them.
Develops and delivers effective teaching and coaching programs for student success in a global environment, including one-on-one, workshop, and classroom settings.
Teaches a co-op preparation course each semester, covering job search strategy, interviewing skills, professional behavior and communication, workplace ethics, leadership skills, and self-assessment.
Maintains contact with students during their co-op experience and works with them through post-co-op reflection.
Collaborates with academic faculty, administration, and the co-op community to guide students in integrating co-op and academic experiences.
Shares industry knowledge with academic faculty to integrate employment-based learning with curriculum-based learning.
Develops new co-op partnerships and expands current employer programs by engaging with managers, human resources contacts, and alumni.
Maintains a current understanding of the industry, employers, and positions through activities such as site visits, outreach to potential employers, and participation in professional organizations.
Engages in service to Cooperative Education within the Office of the Chancellor, Khoury College of Computer Sciences, and Northeastern University.
Makes presentations to prospective and newly admitted students.
Participates on committees and task forces.
Serves as an advisor to student organizations.
