About The Position

This position involves direct participation in the instruction and development of clinical learning experiences for medical students throughout their 4-year education. The role includes teaching medical students through lectures, small group sessions (problem-based and case-based learning), and bedside instruction as feasible. Key topics cover basic osteopathic manipulative medicine, clinical skills, clinical decision-making (differential diagnosis), and general medical knowledge. The professor will also precept medical students in clinical settings, providing formal and informal instruction and supervision. Additionally, the role may involve teaching students from other colleges or graduate programs, contributing to graduate medical education, and assisting in the development of departmental educational programs and curriculum to maintain academic standards. Communication between departments, administration, and other university colleges is also a component. The position supports the department's clinical services to ensure quality patient care and educational programs for student rotations.

Requirements

  • Board Certified DO Physician in Family Medicine or General Internal Medicine.
  • Comfort with performance and teaching basic skills in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine is required.
  • Clinical patient care, and clinical team experience.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Outstanding leadership, teaching, and clinical skills.
  • Have or be eligible for Maine licensure to practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Allopathic training will be considered on an individual basis if these skills have been obtained.
  • Specialty Residency Trained to Practice in an area (preferred).
  • Curricular and teaching experience in formal and informal teaching, and learner supervision and evaluation (preferred).
  • Experience in bedside clinical teaching/precepting (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Participate directly in the instruction and development of clinical learning experiences in the 4-year continuum of medical student education.
  • Participate directly in the instruction of medical students through lecture, small group experiences (problem and case-based learning), and bedside as time allows.
  • Topics include but are not limited to basic osteopathic manipulative medicine, clinical skills, clinical decision-making (differential diagnosis) and general medical knowledge.
  • Participate in precepting medical students in clinical settings, by giving formal and informal clinical instruction and supervision.
  • Participate in teaching students of other colleges or graduate programs as requested.
  • Participate in graduate medical education as it correlates with the college.
  • Help with the development of the educational programs of the department and give curricular input to the courses in such a way as to maintain academic standards and quality within the educational programs.
  • Help maintain communication between the department, the administration, and other departments within the college, and other colleges within the university.
  • Help the clinical services of the department in such a way as to maintain quality patient care and educational programs for student rotations.
  • Participate and serve on committees within the college and the university.
  • Participate in community relations efforts to extend and enhance the visibility and reputation of the Department, the College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the University of New England.
  • Serve on state, regional, and agencies, bureaus, and committees of the profession and specialty or discipline.
  • Comply with UNE and professional standards and regulations including but not limited to HIPAA, OSHA, FERPA and safety training.
  • Perform related duties as assigned as necessary.
