About The Position

Reports directly to the Aquatics Manager for duties pertaining to the operation and safety of the Aquatic Facility and the patrons. Must be able to exercise preventative safety measures, supervise and instruct swimmers, clean and maintain pool, water, equipment, and provide aid to any patron in need. Performs any related work as required. The Assistant Aquatics Manager will be responsible for immediate supervision of an aquatic facility. Assists in managing the filtration systems and all chemical control systems, the supervision of all staff, the continuous programing of the facility, instruction of lifeguard courses, as well as general recreational swimming activities, proper life caring capabilities and facility maintenance. Assists in the planning, coordinating and scheduling of recreational activities for a recreational site for all segments, groups, ages and interest levels. Plans, organizes, and directs a wide variety of recreational activities. Such employee must be capable of organizing, coaching and officiating athletic games, sports, and other activities. Organizes and directs, through subordinates, the recreational program of a facility in the absence of the Park Manager. Assists in preparing schedules and work assignments for part-time employees (Service Aides). Assist in facility inspections to ensure the safety of the public and facilities. Keeps records and prepares reports. Must perform minor repairs, perform lifeguard duties and teach water safety classes as necessary. Supports operations by handling telephone inquiries, greeting visitors, and providing information. Enforce safety and other facility rules and regulations; administers first aid as required. Assist in organizing and administering recreational programming when needed. Performs manual work in semi-skilled jobs involving maintenance, repair of buildings and grounds, construction. Performs general maintenance and clean up duties at the facility which include, but not limited to, the emptying of trash receptacles, sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors, wiping down tables, chairs and other furnishings, replenishing toilet paper and hand towels, and cleaning concession area, restrooms and pool deck. Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Resident of the United States.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. from an accredited school/institution AND (1) year of paid experience as a part-time WSI, or Lifeguard; OR Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or Physical Education, Sports Management, Public Administration or other related field.
  • Must have a valid Pool Operators Certificate and/or Lifeguard Instructor issued by the Miami-Dade County Department of Public Health and/or an Aquatics Facility Operators Certificate prior to hire.
  • Possession of Valid Florida driver license is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all phases of swimming pool operation.
  • Ability to gain the confidence and inspire enthusiasm in groups and individuals in order to lead them in recreational activities.
  • Ability to supervise subordinate staff.
  • Ability to instruct all levels and age groups in aquatic activities.
  • Ability to cooperate with public and private groups and ability to develop and maintain high morale and enthusiasm.
  • Good judgment and the ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
  • Work involves sitting and standing for long periods of time.
  • Work involves frequent typing, walking and bending, lifting and stooping for short periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to 30 pounds.
