About The Position

The Salvation Army - Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Phoenix, Arizona is seeking an Aquatics Assistant Manager. This role provides oversight to the day-to-day operations of the aquatics program, facilities, and staff members in conjunction with the Aquatics Manager. The position requires Saturday shifts and may involve split shifts and holidays depending on departmental needs. The Assistant Manager will also step in as a swim instructor and lifeguard as needed to meet operating standards. This role involves maintaining clear communication channels, updating program information, cooperating with other departments, and ensuring equipment is maintained and properly utilized. Responsibilities also include reporting facility issues, performing chemical checks, cleaning procedures, maintaining pump room equipment, attending staff meetings, conducting audits, reporting injuries, maintaining a safe working environment, conducting employee evaluations, assisting with timekeeping, and adhering to Salvation Army policies and procedures. The role also involves recognizing spiritual needs and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor CPR/ AED & First aid instructor, and Water Safety Instructor.
  • Must have a minimum of a year or more experience as a certified lifeguard.
  • Meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public; work cooperatively with others; analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Meet all health & safety regulations as defined by the Health Department & The Salvation Army.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Ability to use appropriate positive discipline consistently.
  • Be dependable.
  • Ability to handle security and crisis situations, calmly.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight to the day-to-day operations of the aquatics program, facilities, and staff members in conjunction with the Aquatics Manager.
  • Work Saturday shifts.
  • Work split shifts and holidays as needed.
  • Step in as a swim instructor and be in the rotation of guarding when needed to meet operating standards.
  • Maintain clear channels of communication with staff, volunteers and program participants, including writing internal memos, conducting weekly department meetings, creating work schedules, flyers, newsletters, and one-on-one discussions with Aquatics Manager.
  • Update and add programs into TractionRec.
  • Work in a cooperative manner with the other program departments.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem-solving.
  • Follow and enforce equipment checkout program.
  • Report defects using Asset Essentials.
  • Ensure that all equipment assigned to the aquatics department is maintained and properly utilized.
  • Report all immediate harmful problems with facilities to the Aquatics Manager and Facilities Director.
  • Perform chemical checks as required by policy.
  • Perform cleaning procedures such as vacuuming pool and spa, upkeep of cleaning deck, brushing entire sides of pool and spa, scrubbing tiles in entire pool and spa, and documenting and signing off on completion dates.
  • Help maintain pump room, changing of hair traps, and backwashing.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and management team meetings when directed by the Aquatics Manager.
  • Conduct audits of swim instructors and lifeguards utilizing proper documentation by American Red Cross.
  • Ensure that any injuries are reported timely and according to procedure utilizing incident and/or Notice of Concern reports.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Conduct employee evaluations.
  • Assist with timekeeping.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Recognize the spiritual needs of individuals, which may require referral to the officer/pastor who is an ordained minister of religion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned as they relate to the position of Aquatics Assistant Manager.
