About The Position

The WSYMCA is looking for Assistant Youth Group Leaders to join their team. This role offers flexible scheduling while providing valuable childcare experience and making a direct impact on the community daily. The Assistant Youth Group Leader assists the Youth Group Leaders in the direct supervision of a group of children in a state-licensed out-of-school time program that operates full-day programs. The role focuses on providing a quality experience for children and parents, centered around the YMCA's core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children preferred.
  • Ability to assist in providing direct care to school-age children while reinforcing health and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to assist in supporting children with their distance learning assignments being done remotely at the YMCA.
  • Ability to assist in guiding structured Clubs and enrichment activities.
  • Commitment to support and further the organization's anti-racist work, learning about initiatives and being able to vocalize with members if needed.
  • Child CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and training within 30 days of hire date.
  • EEC training/registration prior to hire date.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the supervision of a group of children.
  • Assists in the implementation of program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Supports academic learning being done remotely by students.
  • Adheres to YMCA and state (Early Education & Care, EEC) standards, including safety and cleanliness.
  • Attends staff meetings and training.
  • Provides active support of the DEIB statement and puts into practice the commitment to equity, diversity, belonging, and inclusion, continuing to think about strategies to support diversity goals of the organization.
  • Follows YMCA and EEC policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff, modeling relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Works at special events (e.g., Snow Day Program, Holiday Programs) and vacation week programs, if needed.
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies and situations requiring first aid and/or CPR.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
