Acting as a CFO for companies up to AUD$20m in turnover, they are now seeking an Assistant Accountant to support their business activities.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of full-function bookkeeping experience, preferably across multiple entities or clients
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Xero and its integrations
  • At least 2 years of experience processing end-to-end payroll for 20+ employees
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles (e.g., accruals, depreciation, journals, etc.)
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritise deadlines
  • Effective communication skills to liaise with suppliers, staff, and clients
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively within a finance team
  • Comfortable in a dynamic environment supporting growing businesses or NFPs

Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Bookkeeping: Manage full-function bookkeeping across one or more entities/clients
  • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Maintain general ledger and prepare journal entries (accruals, prepayments, depreciation, etc.)
  • Support with month-end and year-end closing activities
  • Xero Accounting: Use Xero confidently across all modules including invoicing, payroll, fixed assets, and reporting
  • Set up new Xero organizations and integrate Xero with relevant add-ons
  • Troubleshoot and optimize accounting workflows within the Xero platform
  • Australian Payroll: Process end-to-end payroll
  • Ensure compliance with Australian payroll regulations, including: Superannuation, PAYG withholding, STP (Single Touch Payroll), Leave entitlements
  • Use timesheet systems and perform payroll reconciliations
  • Financial Reporting & Support: Prepare and post adjusting journal entries
  • Assist accountants in generating financial reports and completing month-end/year-end close
  • Support reconciliations and provide documentation as needed
  • Communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, and internal teams regarding finance matters
  • Excel & Data Management: Use advanced Excel functions including VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, PivotTables, and data validation
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and timeliness in financial data
  • Comply with the Organization's Information Security Management System (ISMS), including all applicable information security policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines
