About The Position

The Assistant Academic Dean serves as an instructional and operational leader responsible for supporting the overall academic success, culture, and daily operations of the school. This role functions similarly to an assistant principal and partners closely with the Academic Dean to ensure high-quality instruction, strong student achievement, effective staff management, and a positive school culture. The Assistant Academic Dean oversees teachers, students, instructional systems, academic interventions, attendance initiatives, compliance expectations, and operational systems to ensure excellence in teaching and learning. The ideal candidate is mission-driven, student-centered, highly organized, collaborative, and skilled in leading adults and students toward high expectations and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Valid teaching certification
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of successful teaching experience
  • Demonstrated instructional leadership experience
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to analyze academic and behavioral data to drive decisions
  • Experience leading teams and managing multiple priorities

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or related field
  • Principal/Administrator certification
  • Experience as a department chair, instructional coach, dean, assistant principal, or school leader

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and monitoring of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices aligned to school goals and state standards.
  • Conduct classroom observations, walkthroughs, and instructional coaching conversations to improve teacher effectiveness.
  • Monitor academic performance data and collaborate with teachers to create action plans for student achievement.
  • Support intervention systems for struggling students and enrichment opportunities for advanced learners.
  • Ensure grading practices are accurate, timely, and aligned to school expectations.
  • Assist with academic planning, testing coordination, and progress monitoring initiatives.
  • Supervise, coach, and evaluate assigned faculty and staff members.
  • Lead professional development sessions, staff meetings, and collaborative planning meetings.
  • Support onboarding and mentoring of new teachers and team members.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, professionalism, and continuous growth.
  • Assist in staffing, scheduling, and coverage coordination as needed.
  • Support the development and maintenance of a positive, safe, and structured school culture.
  • Address student discipline matters using restorative and student-centered practices.
  • Monitor student attendance, behavior, and academic progress and implement intervention plans as needed.
  • Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and families to support student success.
  • Assist with supervision during arrival, dismissal, lunch, transitions, extracurricular activities, and school events.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, state regulations, and organizational expectations.
  • Support operational systems including attendance reporting, grade audits, documentation, and record keeping.
  • Assist with master scheduling, testing logistics, school events, and campus operations.
  • Maintain effective communication with families, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to strategic school improvement initiatives.
