About The Position

River Valley Community College is seeking applications for a faculty teaching position in its Respiratory Therapy program. The role requires a strong academic background and the candidate must reside in one of the six New England states. The primary responsibilities include educating students, developing curricula for the Respiratory Therapy program, and assisting with departmental and institutional activities that align with the college's mission. This position is part of the Department of Allied Health and reports to the Department Chair.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major study in Education, Adult Education or Respiratory Therapy. If the Master's degree is in Education or Adult Education, must have twelve (12) graduate credits in Respiratory Therapy or a Health-related discipline and a Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Three years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist or Respiratory Therapy instructor, with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care and/or two (2) years of experience teaching as an appointed faculty member within a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students of such programs.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major study in Education or Respiratory Therapy. If the Bachelor's degree is in Education, must have an Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist or Respiratory Therapy Instructor, with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care and/or two (2) years of experience teaching as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students of such programs.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current state license.
  • Must reside in the six (6) New England states.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Coordinator of Clinical Education, directing all aspects of clinical experiences for students, including organizing, administering, reviewing, and revising clinical instruction and outcomes.
  • Develops clinical locations and oversees the general effectiveness of clinical experiences.
  • Teaches assigned Respiratory Therapy courses in classroom, laboratory, and/or clinic/field settings.
  • Supervises student learning activities and academic progress, maintaining accurate records.
  • Consults with students, interprets information, and maintains accessibility to assist with learning needs.
  • Participates in departmental activities, including reviewing and developing programs/courses, maintaining contact with business and industry, assisting with articulation initiatives, and maintaining educational equipment and spaces.
  • Performs administrative duties related to maintaining a safe work environment, training employees, communicating job expectations, appraising performance, and managing time and attendance.
  • Assists in planning, development, and implementation of college recruitment and retention activities, such as career fairs, student orientations, registrations, and award ceremonies.
  • Engages in professional activities, including serving on college or system teams, advising students, and participating in community events.
  • Assists with accreditation processes, including data collection, report writing, and maintaining accreditation status with CoARC.
  • Observes all academic policies, procedures, and institutional rules, demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
  • Serves on and leads college or system committees.
  • Maintains competence in Respiratory Therapy through continuing education and clinical practice.
  • Complies with all college, system, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
