About The Position

The Assignment Editor is responsible for manning the assignment desk in various capacities, setting up interviews, and following up on viewer phone calls. This role involves researching information and leads, making agency checks, handling news tips and story ideas, and managing phone calls. The editor will also write, edit, and post content on all multimedia platforms, engage users through social media, respond to reader comments, and pursue avenues for audience integration. The position requires the ability to excel in weather and breaking news situations, ask tough questions, demand accurate answers, and demonstrate poise and ethical decision-making under pressure. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years news assignment editor experience
• Must be able to work well under pressure
• Must be able to deal effectively with last minute deadlines
• A valid driver’s license is required

Nice To Haves

• A college degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field is preferred
• Grasp of Spanish/Creole languages helpful
