Assignment Editor
About The Position
The Assignment Editor is responsible for manning the assignment desk in various capacities, setting up interviews, and following up on viewer phone calls. This role involves researching information and leads, making agency checks, handling news tips and story ideas, and managing phone calls. The Assignment Editor will edit, or assist in writing, editing, and posting content on all multimedia platforms. They will also engage users through social media, respond to reader comments, and pursue other avenues for audience integration. The ideal candidate knows how to cover major events like weather and breaking news, asks tough questions, demands accurate answers, and exhibits extraordinary poise and ethical decision-making skills under pressure. Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years news assignment editor experience
- Must be able to work well under pressure
- Must be able to deal effectively with last minute deadlines
- A valid driver’s license is required
Nice To Haves
- A college degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field is preferred
- Grasp of Spanish/Creole languages helpful
