About The Position

This role drives sales by ensuring effective merchandise presentation, including accurate pricing, proper signing, inventory levels, and cleanliness. It involves overseeing stocking, merchandise displays, and securing high-shrink merchandise. The position leads and develops teams through teaching, training, and feedback, while also communicating and collaborating on store operations, business initiatives, and company direction. It models exceptional customer service, manages customer needs and issues, and develops action plans for improvement. The role supervises and develops hourly associates by hiring, training, mentoring, assigning duties, and providing clear expectations and recognition. It controls unexplained merchandise loss and improves profitability by setting goals, building accountability for policies, and measuring adherence to loss prevention procedures. This includes reviewing inventory variances, conducting operational and pre-inventory reviews, and identifying improvement opportunities. The coach trains managers and associates on operational controls and processes, and investigates violations of company policies and criminal activities, gathering evidence, taking statements, writing reports, and providing court testimony. The role also monitors safety and risk controls, supervises safety team members, identifies accident trends, and implements solutions for accident prevention. It manages facility-level training for asset protection, safety, claims, and receiving procedures, identifying gaps and developing/delivering training as needed. Claims and receiving operations are managed by ensuring proper policies and procedures are followed, including timely processing of claims for damaged, defective, returned, or liquidated items, and merchandise deliveries. The position coordinates and completes job-related activities by developing stakeholder relationships, supporting initiatives, identifying goals, building accountability, and demonstrating adaptability. It ensures compliance with company policies and procedures, and supports the company's mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity.

Requirements

  • Completion of 2 years of college.
  • 1 year’s experience as a supervisor in a multi-department environment.
  • 1 year’s experience in one of the following areas: accounting, claims, inventory control, systems/UPC, personnel, or loss prevention/asset protection in a multi-department environment.
  • 2 years’ experience in asset protection or related area.
  • Successful completion of any applicable state requirements to work in asset protection (e.g., minimum age, specialized training, certification and/or licensing).
  • If applicable, acquisition of a current, state-issued Certificate of Eligibility.
  • If applicable, successful completion of criminal background check and/or firearms authorized training.
  • Associates will be required to attend and successfully complete all job-required trainings and assessments (e.g., Academy trainings, Open Door trainings, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Drives sales by ensuring effective merchandise presentation, including accurate and competitive pricing, proper signing, inventory levels, cleanliness of the area, assessing economic trends and community needs, overseeing the stocking and rotation of merchandise, setting up, cleaning, and organizing product displays, and securing fragile and high-shrink merchandise.
  • Leads and develops teams effectively by teaching, training, and actively listening to associates, touring stores and providing feedback (Tour to Teach), communicating and collaborating with all levels of associates regarding store operations, utilizing technology, business initiatives, merchandising, and company direction, introducing and leading company change efforts, providing clear expectations and guidance to implement business solutions, and communicating business objectives to teams effectively.
  • Models and demonstrates exceptional customer service standards to store associates by following and demonstrating the One Best Way (OBW) service model, managing and supporting customer service initiatives (e.g., store of the community, community outreach programs), ensuring customer needs, complaints, and issues are successfully resolved, developing and implementing action plans to correct deficiencies, and providing process improvement leadership to ensure a high-quality customer experience.
  • Provides supervision and development opportunities for hourly associates by hiring, training, and mentoring of associates, assigning duties, setting clear expectations, providing associate recognition, communicating expectations consistently and effectively, ensuring awareness, and recruiting and developing qualified associates to meet staffing needs and achieve company growth potential.
  • Controls the unexplained loss of merchandise and improves profitability by identifying and communicating performance goals and objectives, building accountability for policies and procedures, measuring adherence to loss prevention policies and procedures, reviewing variances to inventory reports, conducting operational and pre-inventory reviews, gathering data, auditing results, and monitoring deficiency trends.
  • Identifies improvement opportunities, communicates and works with managers and associates to determine corrections needed to inventory controls, and influences the implementation and execution of control corrections.
  • Trains managers and associates on operational controls and processes in multiple stores.
  • Detects, deters, investigates, and resolves violations of company policies and criminal activities by investigating alleged fraud and other alleged illegal activities, gathering evidence, taking statements, writing case reports, and providing court room testimony as needed.
  • Partners in collaborative efforts with other investigative entities.
  • Monitors safety and risk controls within a facility by ensuring an effective safety program is in place, supervising safety team members, identifying accident trends to develop and implement solutions to prevent accidents, observing workplace practices, and providing training to associates on accident prevention techniques.
  • Communicates plans to minimize accidents, oversees safety reviews, and implements plans to improve workplace safety.
  • Manages facility-level training and execution of asset protection, safety, and claims and receiving procedures by reviewing the application of policies, procedures, compliance guidelines (e.g., cold chain, hazardous materials), and operational controls.
  • Identifies gaps in expectations versus training, determines training needs, and develops and delivers training as needed.
  • Manages claims and receiving operations by ensuring proper policies and procedures are followed, and ensures the timely processing of claims for (e.g., damaged, defective, returned, liquidated items) and merchandise deliveries (e.g., suppliers, third-party deliveries).
  • Provides direction for claims or receiving issues.
  • Maintains necessary documentation and reporting.
  • Coordinates, completes, and oversees job-related activities and assignments by developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, supporting plans and initiatives to meet customer and business needs, identifying and communicating goals and objectives, building accountability for and measuring progress in achieving results, identifying and addressing improvement opportunities, and demonstrating adaptability and promoting continuous learning.
