About The Position

As an Asset Protection Detective at Macy’s, you will help protect company assets, reduce shortage, and support a safe, customer-focused shopping environment. You will use surveillance techniques, investigative tools, and reporting systems to identify and respond to theft, recover merchandise, and help protect customers, colleagues, and the business. The role partners with store teams, Asset Protection leaders, and law enforcement, while applying sound judgment, de-escalation techniques, and company procedures. You will document incidents and investigations, preserve evidence, support audits and legal proceedings, and may testify in criminal and civil cases. You will also respond to alarm calls, support special assignments, train colleagues on relevant protocols, and facilitate first aid when needed. The position involves prolonged standing and walking, time in enclosed surveillance areas, and the ability to apprehend shoplifters. Requirements

Ability to observe, identify, and respond to suspicious activity in a retail environment.

Ability to perform prolonged periods of standing and walking around the store or department.
Frequently lift or move up to 30 pounds.
For jobs in New York, a current New York State Security Guard License is required.

Responsibilities

Use surveillance techniques, investigative tools, and reporting systems to identify theft, dishonest activity, and shortage trends.
Partner with Asset Protection leaders, store teams, and law enforcement to support investigations and protect company assets.
Use de-escalation tools and sound judgment to help maintain a safe environment for customers and colleagues.
Prepare clear, timely, and accurate reports, statements, evidence, and documentation for investigations, audits, and legal proceedings.
Help apprehend shoplifters and dishonest employees in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
Recover stolen merchandise and support investigations with statements, evidence, and documentation.
Maintain compliance with company policies and legal standards concerning apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation.
Testify in court for criminal and civil cases as needed.
Respond to alarm calls and support special assignments.
Facilitate first aid for customers and colleagues when needed.
Train or coach colleagues on protocols that help protect company assets.
Foster an environment of acceptance and respect in relationships with colleagues, customers, and communities.
