About The Position

As an Asset Protection Detective at Macy’s, you will help protect company assets, reduce shortage, and support a safe, customer-focused shopping environment. You will use surveillance, investigative tools, and reporting systems to identify and respond to theft and dishonest activity, recover merchandise, and help protect customers, colleagues, and the business. The role involves partnering with store teams, Asset Protection leaders, and law enforcement, while applying sound judgment, de-escalation techniques, and company procedures to maintain a safe and welcoming environment. You will prepare accurate reports, statements, and evidence for investigations, audits, and legal proceedings; help train colleagues on asset protection protocols; respond to alarms and special assignments; and provide first aid when needed. You may be required to testify in criminal or civil court. The role requires prolonged standing and walking, time in surveillance areas, and the ability to apprehend shoplifters. Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled for 30 or more hours per week. Schedules include weekend shifts, and hours depend on business needs and colleague availability.

Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods and sustain long periods in enclosed surveillance areas.
Ability to frequently lift or move up to 30 pounds.
Ability to access and review written and electronic information, move within the work environment, and interact with workplace materials.
Close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
For jobs in New York, a current New York State Security Guard License is required.

Maintain compliance with company policies and legal standards related to apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation.
Train or support colleagues on protocols that help protect company assets.
Testify in criminal and civil cases as needed.
Respond to alarm calls, support special assignments, and facilitate first aid for customers and colleagues when needed.
