About The Position

As an Assessor Assistant, you will assist in the preparation and maintenance of property assessments. The work involves daily contact with property owners and assisting assessors by obtaining specific data on the property for the calculation of assessments.

Requirements

  • Completion of the 1st year of the University of British Columbia Certificate program in Real Property Assessment and completion of a Building Construction course
  • Knowledge of construction material and techniques involved in the assessment of residential properties
  • Knowledge of data required to calculate assessments
  • Ability to meet and deal courteously and tactfully with internal and external customers
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work effectively in a field environment, conducting inspections across all types of residential properties
  • Strong working knowledge of standard desktop applications, including Google Workspace

  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position.
  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange for own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Review and determine property classification and characteristics
  • Organize assigned workload and prepare for site inspections by efficiently mapping and planning inspection routes to maximize field productivity
  • Carry out site inspections for the purpose of gathering accurate data
  • Review current field cards, APEX diagrams, and architectural drawings (if available)
  • Update and verify property and sales data within the CAMA system, including details for complex or unusual properties
  • Review and check data entries and outputs of own work and that of others
  • Assisting and working with Assessors in the review and final calculations of assessments
  • Enter inspections in CAMA system including updating property attributes and data
  • Assist in developing and improving assessment methods and procedures
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
