About The Position

BRC's Reaching New Heights program is seeking an Assessment Specialist to provide comprehensive assessment services to a caseload of homeless men. The primary duties involve completing comprehensive intake assessments for new clients, entering demographic and personal information into the AWARDS database, and initiating client charting. Additional responsibilities include assisting clients in obtaining benefits and identification, encouraging engagement in day treatment programs, and managing data in both AWARDS and DHS Cares. The role also requires generating progress and group notes, monthly statistical reports, and running reports to ensure client information is up-to-date in AWARDS. The Assessment Specialist will participate in clinical team meetings, case conferences, and other staff meetings, assist with program staff coverage as needed, and provide emergency first aid/CPR assistance when necessary. This position also involves performing additional related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Computer proficiency required, especially with managing data bases and Excel Spreadsheets
  • Experience working in residential treatment
  • Experience with the homeless population
  • CPR training certification or willingness to take training class in CPR

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of HRA and NY/NY application systems a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive assessment service to a caseload of homeless men referred to BRC’S Reaching New Heights.
  • Complete a comprehensive intake assessment of clients new to the shelter.
  • Enter all demographic and pertinent personal information in AWARDS data base and begin initial charting for new clients.
  • Obtain benefits and identification for clients.
  • Encourage client engagement in day treatment program.
  • Enter data into both AWARDS and DHS Cares.
  • Generate ongoing progress and group notes as well as monthly statistical reports.
  • Run monthly reports to ensure that all necessary client information is updated in AWARDS.
  • Participate in clinical team, case conference, and other staff meetings.
  • Assist with program staff coverage as needed.
  • Provide emergency first aid/CPR assistance when needed.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
