About The Position

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses. PIW is a 130 bed, short-term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient hospitalization, as well as specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency. Website: https://psychinstitute.com/ The Role: The Assessment Coordinator is a patient‑centered role supporting them and their families during some of their most important moments. This position serves as the first point of contact for individuals ages 5–65+, conducting compassionate interviews and clinically informed assessments to determine the best path forward for care. The Assessment Coordinator collaborates closely with our Business Office to ensure smooth financial onboarding and partner with Utilization Review to secure certifications for admitted patients. Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social work or a clincial mental health field
  • One or more years of experience working in a psychiatric and chemical dependency seting
  • At least years of intake/admissions expereince in a managed care setting
  • Experience working with referral agencies to provie patient support
  • BLS or CPR from the American Heart Association
  • Working knowledge of crises intervention procedures
  • Working knowledge of voluntary admission and involuntary procedures for court committment

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments for all scheduled patients and determine appropriate clinical dispositions.
  • Document patient responses, ensure completion of pre‑evaluation questionnaires, and maintain accurate admission/discharge tracking each shift.
  • Coordinate daily with supervisors to prioritize follow‑ups, complex cases, tours, and workload for 24‑hour assessment coverage.
  • Schedule diagnostic evaluations within 24 hours and confirm all appointments; follow up on no‑shows to support continuity of care.
  • Provide patient support by explaining insurance benefits, completing financial arrangements, and orienting admitted patients to hospital expectations.
  • Offer facility tours to prospective patients and their families; act as a patient advocate when needed.
  • Manage referral communication, including obtaining referral source details, contacting clinicians, and thanking referral partners at admission.
  • Review test-call results and contribute to corrective action plans to improve service quality.
  • Participate in admissions operations during night shifts, including census tracking and admissions processing.
  • Support department functions through staff training, QA data collection and review, staff development initiatives, weekly meetings, and committee participation.
