About The Position

The Assessment Clinician, Substance Use plays a critical role in evaluating and diagnosing individuals to inform treatment planning and support services. This position provides substance use and mental health treatment services including orientation, screening, assessment and diagnosis, treatment planning, individual counseling, and group counseling. This ole involves conducting comprehensive clinical assessments using standardized tools and clinical interviews to gather relevant psychological, behavioral, and social information, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to interpret assessment data and develop individualized care plans that address the unique needs of each client. The Assessment Clinician is responsible for ensuring that all individuals receiving substance use treatment receive ongoing assessment and treatment planning in accordance with guidelines set forth by IDHS DBHR and other applicable rules. Additionally, the role requires maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards. Ultimately, the Assessment Clinician contributes to improving client outcomes by providing thorough and insightful evaluations that guide effective interventions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social work, psychology, or a related human service field.
  • Certification or licensure (CADC, LSW, or LPC) required within 24 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting clinical assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Strong knowledge of DSM-5 criteria, ASAM criteria, and standardized assessment instruments.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • A valid driver's license, reliable means of transportation, and proof of automobile insurance.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or other human service field.
  • Experience working with diverse populations across the lifespan.
  • Training in specialized assessment tools such as neuropsychological testing or trauma-informed assessment.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Additional certifications related to mental health assessment or treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide substance use and mental health treatment services, including orientation, screening, assessment and diagnosis, treatment planning, individual counseling, and group counseling.
  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments and diagnostic evaluations using evidence-based tools and techniques.
  • Gather and analyze client history, behavioral observations, and collateral information to inform assessment outcomes.
  • Ensure all individuals receiving substance use treatment receive ongoing assessment and treatment planning per guidelines set forth by IDHS DBHR and applicable rules.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, case managers, and families to develop comprehensive, individualized treatment plans.
  • Document assessment findings clearly and accurately in client records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with legal standards.
  • Stay current with best practices and emerging research in clinical assessment to enhance evaluation quality.
