About The Position

This position assembles fabricated/machined parts and standards into partial or completed assemblies. The role involves reading and interpreting work orders and aerospace blueprints, preparing part surfaces, applying adhesives and sealants, fastening parts together using various hardware, and utilizing a range of hand and power tools. The Assembly Mechanic will also operate machinery like drill presses and presses, use precision measuring tools, perform functional testing, and ensure adherence to productivity and quality standards. A key responsibility includes supporting and ensuring compliance with ISO 9001/AS9100 Quality Management Systems. The role requires contributing to a positive work environment and performing any task necessary to support customer requirements and company goals, while also following all company policies, standard operating procedures, and safety practices.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical assembly or a similar role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and assembly techniques.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and practices.
  • Problem solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance methodologies and inspection techniques.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools relevant to mechanical assembly.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Adaptability to change priorities and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documentation, engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately assemble equipment and products with the use of hand-held tools.
  • Ability to perform basic math skills.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Must be a “US Person” (i.e. US Citizen or Permanent Resident) to ensure Vaupell's compliance with ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and EAR (Export Administration Regulations).

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certification in mechanical assembly or related field preferred
  • Experience with precision assembly and quality control processes preferred
  • Basic understanding of electrical components and systems is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret written work orders and aerospace blueprints and drawings to determine parts requirements and sequence of assembly step.
  • Clean or otherwise prepare part surfaces for assembly.
  • Apply and clean excess adhesives, sealants, and other substances as required by work order, drawing, and/or blueprint instructions to piece parts for assembly.
  • Sonic Weld Inserts and fasten parts together using nuts, bolts, screws, clips, rivets, or other fasteners.
  • Use hammers, punches, pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, rivet guns, and other hand tools to perform assembly operation.
  • Install bushings and bearings and use hand tools to produce close fit between parts.
  • Operate drill presses, presses, or riveting machines to assist in assembly operation.
  • Use micrometers, force gauges, calipers, torque wrenches, dial indicators, and other types of precision measuring tools and equipment. Read measuring tools and interpret readings in performing assembly operations.
  • Handle parts, subassemblies and assemblies with care to ensure those with finishes or special coatings are not damaged or blemished.
  • Perform functional testing.
  • Meet established standards for productivity and quality.
  • Confer with supervisor when problems occur which impact expected levels of performance.
  • Support and ensure compliance to ISO 9001/AS9100 Quality Management Systems.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Perform any task required to support customer requirements and company goals.
  • Follow all Vaupell policies and standard operating procedures and safety practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
