About The Position

Smith Equipment is looking for a highly motivated team member to support business cell functions and operations. They would need to produce premium quality products to meet our customers’ needs. This role involves light assembly of fuel/oxy heating, welding, cutting and regulation products per specifications and prescribed procedures. The assembler will set up and operate machines, processes or equipment, perform inspections, tests and audits on processes, products and components. They will diagnose faults, conduct repairs, and utilize appropriate measurements, inspection and test equipment and procedures to assure consistency in parts produced. Ensuring that all parts meet specifications, finishes and special handling requirements utilizing appropriate documentation is key. The role also includes utilizing proper storage, handling and disposal methods of all materials, including hazardous material when applicable, and assisting in maintaining department supplies and consumables. The assembler will support the department and continuous improvement concepts by suggesting changes and improvements, and keep department and machines clean and orderly while maintaining housekeeping requirements. Performing work in a safe manner by following safety rules and ensuring that proper safety equipment is used is essential. Additionally, the assembler will troubleshoot, maintain and perform routine maintenance / preventative maintenance on department machines and equipment, and maintain department records per established procedures. The role requires seeking and recommending ways to eliminate potential quality problems, to improve procedures and methods, and to increase productivity using the Quality Management System (policy, procedure, work instructions). The assembler will also support the ITW/Smith principles and philosophies: Use of the principles and philosophies: simplify, focus, flow, empower and trust. Set goals and targets that support the company, department and assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • No allergies to oils, solvents or solutions.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry and maneuver 50 pounds.
  • Physical ability to stand all day.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cooperative and team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbal/written) effectively with customers, suppliers and other employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret all applicable blueprints, schematics and diagrams.
