Assembler I - B-Shift

IDEX•West Henrietta, NY
•Onsite

About The Position

The Assembler I (also described in the posting as Optical Assembly Technician 1) performs foundational optical manufacturing operations supporting optical and optomechanical assemblies. The work focuses on preparing, cleaning, inspecting, measuring, and completing non-precision optical assembly tasks in which machined features govern optical positioning rather than active alignment. The role follows established procedures and quality standards to ensure components and assemblies are clean, conforming, and ready for precision optical operations. Work takes place in a controlled clean-room manufacturing environment and requires compliance with gowning, contamination-control, ESD, and chemical-handling requirements. The position is a B-Shift/second-shift opening, with hours from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Applicants for certain positions may need to qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR/EAR regulations. The compensation range is $33,300.00–$49,900.00, depending on experience. The position may be eligible for a performance-based bonus plan. Listed U.S. benefits include health benefits, a 401(k) retirement savings program with company match, PTO, and more.

  • Follow clean-room contamination-control and component-handling practices.
  • Prepare components for downstream assembly, inspection, or packaging.
  • Perform incoming and in-process measurements on machined metal parts and optical elements to verify compliance with drawings and specifications.
  • Measure features such as lens center thickness, diameter, wedge, edge dimensions, housing bores, depths, and mechanical interfaces.
  • Use standard measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, height gauges, and basic optical metrology tools.
  • Document inspection results and identify nonconforming material in accordance with quality procedures.
  • Assemble optical components into housings where alignment is passively controlled by machined features.
  • Apply and cure adhesives to secure optics according to defined processes.
  • Perform basic mechanical assembly tasks, including fastening, fixturing, and handling subassemblies.
  • Verify assembly completeness and workmanship before release.
  • Follow work instructions, travelers, and standard operating procedures.
  • Record build and inspection data to maintain product traceability.
