About The Position

WRS has immediate openings for an experienced (5+ years preferred) and competent Asphalt Screed Operator. Our paving crews work most of the year, and typically get over 2,000 hours annually! The Asphalt Screed Operator expertly controls the screed on various pavers, collaborates with the paving crew, and ensures high-quality asphalt placement. Requirements

  • Prior experience in asphalt paving, 5 years preferred.
  • Ability and knowledge to safely operate various kinds of paving equipment.
  • Consistently earn the respect of fellow employees, leadership, ownership, and customers.
  • Strong work ethic and desire to learn.
  • Strong collaboration skills with team members to deliver quality projects.

Nice To Haves

  • CDL a plus, or willing to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Operates screed effectively: Proficient in operating screed controls on Vogele and Carlson and other paving equipment, including adjusting the angle of attack, extension height, crown, and vibratory settings to achieve the desired mat texture and density. Collaborates closely with the paver operator and ground crew through clear communication, even asphalt placement and achieve the target grade and slope, while continuously monitoring the mat for defects and making adjustments as needed.
  • Ensures project quality: Understands project specifications, plans, and best practices. Meticulously inspects and addresses high/low points, valley lines, and cross-slope to ensure proper drainage and a high-quality finished surface.
  • Maximizes efficiency: Maintains proper yield and slope, hitting fills and building grade with asphalt as needed. Accurately calculates and tracks yield, depths, and production to optimize paving operations.
  • Performs equipment maintenance: Conducts daily equipment maintenance, including greasing, cleaning, and minor repairs to ensure optimal performance.
  • Contributes to overall team success: Communicates effectively with the paving crew and foreman, demonstrates leadership qualities, and assists with other paving duties as needed, including shoveling, raking, and cleaning the job site.
  • Perform daily equipment maintenance, ensuring equipment is returned in good condition.
  • Willingly perform manual labor (shoveling, raking, cleaning) as needed.
  • Maintain and protect company property.

  • Attention and eye for detail and providing the client with a quality product.
