About The Position

APAC AL, Inc., part of CRH’s South Division, supplies asphalt and construction services in the Southeastern U.S. This skilled position controls production and loadout of materials at plants and will work mostly in the Montgomery area. The operator is responsible for maintaining the efficient working condition of plant equipment, performing minor servicing and maintenance, and referring major problems to a supervisor. The role includes monitoring equipment and production, troubleshooting, supporting repairs and preventive maintenance, and communicating operational information while maintaining safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

Ability to operate levers that regulate material flow to and from conveyors, chutes, pumps, or storage bins.
Ability to complete the plant’s start-up and shutdown processes.
Ability to navigate computer screens for operating procedures, troubleshooting, reporting, and electronic submissions when available.
Ability to monitor gauges and computer-generated information.
Ability to assist with preventive maintenance, plant repairs, lubrication, cleanup, and heavy or awkward tasks.
Ability to communicate plant operating information clearly and provide accurate, timely performance information.
Ability to troubleshoot proactively while maintaining regulatory compliance, product quality, and safe work practices.

Responsibilities

Perform preliminary walk-around surveys of plant crushing equipment and identify maintenance needs, preventive maintenance items, worn parts, emissions-control issues, and housekeeping needs.
Move levers to regulate the flow of materials to and from conveyors, chutes, pumps, or storage bins.
Initiate and complete the plant start-up and shutdown processes.
Navigate computer screens to complete start-ups and shutdowns, troubleshoot, retrieve reports, and submit information electronically when available.
Ensure the safety of crew members and members of the public who may interact at the jobsite.
Observe and monitor gauges and computer-generated information to maximize plant productivity while preserving equipment and assets associated with the crushing process.
Assist with preventive maintenance and plant repairs, including lubrication and cleanup.
Assist other operators or maintenance personnel with heavy or awkward duties.
Communicate plant conditions, components, needs, issues, and potential efficiency enhancements to all levels of the organization.
Provide accurate and timely information about the plant’s daily operating performance.
Proactively troubleshoot and maintain the work environment in compliance with regulations, product-quality requirements, and safe work practices.
