About The Position

Edgewood Properties, a leading real estate development and property management company founded in 1992 with corporate headquarters in New Jersey, is experiencing significant growth. With ongoing construction and development plans, our apartment portfolio of over 6,000 units is projected to double in the next few years and exceed 12,000 units within five years. As we continue to expand and focus on holding properties, we are seeking a qualified Asphalt Paver Operator to join our Excavation Department. The Asphalt Paver Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of an asphalt paving machine, laying asphalt on various surfaces. This role demands precision, attention to detail regarding grade and thickness, and effective coordination with the paving crew to achieve a high-quality finished product. The position is based out of our South Plainfield, NJ office.

Requirements

  • Strong ability to operate pavers and a wide variety of heavy equipment.
  • Experience supervising paving or excavation crews.
  • Knowledge of paving methods, materials, and best practices.
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operate an asphalt paver machine to spread and level hot mix asphalt on roadways, parking lots, and other surfaces.
  • Control paving machine speed, material flow, and screed settings to ensure proper thickness, width, and grade.
  • Coordinate with truck drivers, roller operators, and ground crew to maintain a continuous paving operation.
  • Monitor asphalt temperature, material distribution, and surface appearance to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Perform daily inspections of the paving machine including fluid levels, hydraulics, tracks, and mechanical components.
  • Conduct minor maintenance and adjustments to equipment as needed.
  • Follow project specifications, blueprints, and grade stakes to ensure accurate paving alignment and elevation.
  • Maintain communication with the Foreman regarding job progress, site conditions, and equipment issues.
  • Keep equipment clean and properly maintained at the end of each shift.
  • Assist other crew members with site preparation and cleanup when required.
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Wear required PPE including hard hat, safety vest, steel-toe boots, gloves, and eye protection.
  • Maintain safe distances from other equipment and personnel during paving operations.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Ensure proper traffic control measures are in place when working near roadways.
