About The Position

The Asphalt Paving Machine Operator’s primary function is to operate the asphalt paving machine to achieve overall ride quality and appearance. This is a full-time role that reports to the Roadwork Paving Site Foreman. Nights and/or weekends may be required in addition to regular day shifts. Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. is seeking self-motivated individuals with a desire to grow in their career.

Requirements

  • At least one year of experience as an Asphalt Paver Operator.
  • Ability to climb and descend steps/stairs and use handrails to enter/exit vehicles.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds consistently.
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment-vest, steel-toed boots, helmet.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue, and to effectively jump, sprint, or throw an object.
  • Good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
  • Ability to quickly move arms and legs.
  • Ability to sit for an extended period of time and the eye/hand/feet ability and coordination to operate a manual transmission and clutch in both trucks and any other equipment being driven.
  • Able to climb stairs/ steps and to use handrails to climb and exit the equipment’s raised cab.
  • Willingness and ability to perform manual work and follow verbal and written instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent is desired but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily maintenance checks and report any mechanical or safety issues to a supervisor.
  • Perform minor repairs to the equipment and is expected to assist in the general operation of each job site.
  • Add/remove screed extensions.
  • Clean excess asphalt off from paver.
  • Load and unload of materials.
  • Check and maintain grade stakes.
  • Set up and maintenance of all traffic control aids.
  • Operate rollers, power broom, tamps, and skid steer loaders, and any other equipment employee can operate.
  • Drive pick-ups, flatbed, water trucks, and sand trucks.
  • Maintenance of all equipment and tools.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assist with the crew in manual labor when not working as an operator.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Travel and work away from home when required.
  • Work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Report to the assigned job site in proper attire and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Safety Manual.
  • Work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
