About The Position

Knife River is a PEOPLE-first company and a growing team within one of the 10 largest construction materials producers/contractors in the Country. This is a seasonal position, allowing for winters off while benefits continue year-round. The role is responsible for safely operating a machine that spreads and levels hot-mix bituminous paving material on the subgrade of highways and streets. The operator will also spread and smooth freshly poured asphalt surfaces for roads and landing fields, and coordinate the dumping of trucks.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of world events and acceptable interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card and acceptable driving record.
Mechanical skills to perform maintenance, light repair and assembly/disassembly for transporting equipment.

Responsibilities

Perform daily equipment, walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained.
Safely and properly perform maintenance on paver.
Safely and properly operate paver.
Controls flow of material into hopper and through paving machine.
Observes distribution of paving materials and controls direction of machine.
Shovel blacktop as needed.
Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations.
Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous/respectful of others.
Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.).
Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
Ensure OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulation compliance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
