This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating various types of paving equipment including but not limited to screed, roller, and paver to efficiently apply asphalt products on subgrade of highways, roadways, and related surfaces to meet specifications required by the job.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
  • 1-2 years of related asphalt and road construction experience.
  • 1-2 years of asphalt paving equipment experience.
  • Ability to operate asphalt equipment within designated area with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work, day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours).
  • Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment.
  • Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions/confined spaces.
  • Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand-eye coordination with ability to: grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down.
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment, specifically paver, screed, Gannon, and compaction equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Make operating adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade and finished cross section.
  • Maintain and make operating adjustments to equipment as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe job site.
  • May assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices.
  • Other duties as required.
