About the Role: We are seeking a patient, ASL-fluent Special Education tutor to work one-on-one with a student who is Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) and has intellectual disabilities. The student is non-verbal but communicates using approximately 60 signs and short 1–2 word phrases.
The student thrives with consistency, structure, and strong one-on-one relationships, so building trust and maintaining a predictable routine will be key to supporting their learning and progress.

Schedule:
Tuesday (availability to be discussed with tutor)
Saturday & Sunday: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Hours: 1–1.5 hours per session, approximately 2–3 hours per week
Subjects: English and Math

Requirements

• Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Experience working with Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) students
• Extensive hands-on Special Education experience, particularly with students who have intellectual or developmental disabilities
• Patient, calm, and skilled at building trusting relationships with students who rely on structured routines
• Ability to use visual cues and adaptive teaching strategies

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized tutoring in English and Math aligned with the student’s IEP goals.
• Support foundational learning goals such as alphabet identification, counting to 10, and increasing independent signing.
• Use visual supports, gestures, and ASL communication to facilitate understanding.
• Create a calm, structured learning environment that respects the student’s need for routine.
• Support engagement through interactive and hands-on learning activities.
• Manage occasional agitation with patience, consistency, and supportive redirection.
