The ASL Lab & Instructional Support Technician provides specialized professional and technical support to the American Sign Language Interpreter Education (ASLIE) program at Spokane Falls Community College. Under general supervision, this position coordinates instructional support activities for the ASLIE lab and program, provides direct student support in ASL, manages course content and instructional materials and coordinates the operational, and technical functions essential to deliver across modalities. This position requires professional fluency in American Sign Language and serves as a bilingual communication bridge between Deaf and hearing faculty, staff, and students. As a Deaf professional and native or highly proficient ASL user, this position also serves as a daily language model, cultural resource, and mentor for students preparing to enter the interpreting profession. These language immersion and cultural competency functions are integral to interpreter education and cannot be replicated through technology or general campus support services.
