About The Position

Grays Harbor College is seeking a full-time, temporary grant-funded Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2 for the TRIO Upward Bound (UB) program. This program offers fundamental support to high school students who are first-generation and/or low-income, preparing them for college entrance. The Technician will provide instructional and academic support services to students from Raymond Jr/Sr High, Ocosta Jr/Sr High, and Hoquiam High School. This role involves assisting with the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of after-school, Saturday, and summer academic enrichment activities. The position develops and facilitates instructional activities, coordinates tutoring and academic support, assists with student workshops and college preparation programming, and supports program specialists. The position is funded by a federal grant project with the current cycle ending August 31, 2027, with the possibility of renewal. TRIO projects at GHC have been continuously funded since September 2005.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Sciences, Counseling, Student Services, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of TRIO Upward Bound program goals and federal educational access initiatives.
  • Ability to plan and deliver academic support activities and instructional workshops.
  • Knowledge of college admissions, financial aid, and college readiness resources.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Experience coordinating educational programs and events.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and student data systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidential student information.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to tutor in core classes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and delivery of academic instruction and enrichment activities aligned with Upward Bound objectives.
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate the Upward Bound After-School Academy.
  • Provide individual and small-group tutoring in core academic subjects including mathematics, science, English, and social studies.
  • Monitor participant academic performance and communicate concerns to program staff and school personnel.
  • Assist students with study skills, time management, goal setting, and college readiness activities.
  • Develop instructional materials, handouts, lesson plans, and learning resources to support participant success.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Saturday Academy activities throughout the academic year.
  • Arrange instructional workshops, guest speakers, college preparation activities, and enrichment experiences.
  • Assist with student attendance tracking and participant engagement.
  • Support the staff with logistics including scheduling, materials preparation, transportation coordination, and facility use.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of the Upward Bound Summer Academy.
  • Coordinate academic workshops, STEM activities, college exploration experiences, and career development sessions.
  • Facilitate workshops on financial aid, college admissions, scholarship searches, leadership development, and personal growth.
  • Support educational field trips, campus visits, and experiential learning activities.
  • Monitor student participation and assist with supervision during program activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, tutoring sessions, workshops, and participant contacts.
  • Collect and organize data for federal reporting and program evaluation.
  • Assist in tracking participant progress toward academic and postsecondary goals.
  • Support purchasing, inventory, and preparation of instructional materials and supplies.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and program documentation.
  • Collaborate with program staff, faculty, school personnel, and community partners.
  • Assist with marketing and promotion of program activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and training activities.
  • Represent Upward Bound at school and community events as needed.
