About The Position

Easterseals, a national nonprofit, has supported individuals with disabilities for over 50 years. Its Career Pathway Connections program offers person-centered employment services for individuals who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, or hard of hearing, providing ASL-proficient support, workplace accommodations, and assistive technology to remove employment barriers.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Interpreting or related field; Bachelors’ Degree preferred.
  • RID Interpreter Certification required.
  • 5+ years of interpreting experience.
  • Well-versed in Deaf culture.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work flexible hours based on business needs.
  • Excellent problem solving, planning and organization skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Proficient with ZOOM.
  • This role requires driving as an essential function. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be subject to post-offer verification of driving eligibility consistent with company insurance requirements.

  • Proven experience mentoring and creating professional development plans for interpreters is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide interpreting support services to Easterseals staff, clients, and external community agencies.
  • Interpret for a variety of activities including staff meetings, employee training, organization town halls/meetings, and other stakeholder meetings.
  • Create an equal access environment for Deaf staff and clients by providing interpretation for a variety of activities.
  • Use interpreting skills for novice Deaf staff, assist during staff training and organizational meetings.
  • Mentor and develop ENJ’s noncertified interpreting staff by creating professional development plans and researching effective training programs to improve staff’s professional interpreting skills.
  • Develop a professional development curriculum to train/enhance the skills of our novice interpreting staff.
  • Conduct sign language skill assessments for potential new hires.
  • Assist novice interpreting staff by conducting evaluations and providing effective skills feedback.
  • Conduct weekly follow-up meetings with novice staff to help improve their interpretation skills.
  • Research workshops and training opportunities that would work for our staff.
  • Interpret for ENJ’s internal & external stakeholders, including regulatory audits, and state-required meetings.
  • Attend and represent Easterseals at State agency meetings.
  • Ensure that vehicles and equipment are maintained and in proper working order.
