About The Position

The University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center is seeking Pre/Recovery/PACU Staff Nurses to assess patients’ nursing care needs and provide and evaluate pre-operative and post-operative care and teaching for patients and caregivers. Nurses integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice and provide leadership to members of the nursing team to maintain patient-care standards. The Perioperative ASC Pomerantz location includes a 35-bed pre- and post-operative preparation unit and a 12-bay PACU recovery unit for outpatient adult and pediatric patients scheduled for surgery. The role is part of an interdisciplinary team in an environment focused on excellence, education, innovation, evidence-based family-centered care, and professional development. Positions are available at 50% to 100%. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with 8- or 10-hour shifts scheduled between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., plus extension-of-shift call. No weekends or holidays are scheduled. The full-time salary range is $57,587 to $105,636, prorated for appointments below 100%. Shift differentials are detailed in the UI Health Care SNAHP manual. Qualified candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $10,000.

Requirements

Current license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa by the date of hire.
One of the following nursing credentials: Associate’s degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with patients and families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members, demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
General computer skills.
Current ACLS, PALS, and BLS certifications, or completion within six months of employment.

Nice To Haves

Pre/post-op, surgical inpatient, or labor and delivery registered nurse experience, or an internship in an ASC PACU.
EKG cardiac monitoring experience.
CAPA and/or CPAN certification.
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or Master’s degree in Nursing.
If a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing has not yet been obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program.

Perform other assigned projects or tasks.
Participate in orientation and ongoing education and training for new nursing staff.
Maintain patient rights and confidentiality and serve as a patient advocate.
Adhere to legal, professional, and institutional requirements.
Maintain and enhance clinical skills in Pre-Op and Post-Op (PACU).
Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
Assist physicians as appropriate with procedures and patient care.
