About The Position

The Iowa Clinic has an exciting opportunity to be a part of a team at our new ambulatory surgery center. Conveniently located near I-80 in Waukee, this state-of-the-art, 21,000 sq. ft. ASC offers same-day joint replacement, orthopedic, sports medicine, foot and ankle, plastics, pain management surgery and a cardiac catheterization lab in an out-patient setting. We are looking for experienced professionals who enjoy being a part of a close-knit team and who align with our ACT values – Accountability, Compassion and Teamwork. We are looking to fill an ASC-Operating Room RN position. This position is PRN.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current RN license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa.
  • Certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Mandatory Reporter Certification, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support required.
  • Two years nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting required, specialty specific.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performing duties related to direct patient care.
  • The Operating Room RN will assess, monitor, and provide professional nursing services for patients of assigned physician(s) following established nursing practice standards.
  • The role will be responsible for providing professional nursing support in the ambulatory surgery center by assisting physicians with procedures, patient assessment, transfers, and patient education.
  • Utilizes the nursing process and effective written and verbal communications skills in the provision of safe, effective, high quality nursing services to patient populations.
  • Assists physician in performance of procedures through implementation of the perioperative process.
  • Assumes responsibility for intra-operative patient safety by acting as the nursing advocate for the patient by; appropriate positioning, confirming the procedure and site, actively participating in the time out, informs surgeon, anesthesiologist and operating room team of any issues or concerns.
  • Monitors sterile and aseptic techniques in all areas of the perioperative process.
  • Performs all circulating duties with efficiency and speed.
  • Performs scrub duties, as necessary.
  • Assists in the: set up and clean-up of the operating room, opening of sterile packs, instruments, and supplies.
