About The Position

H2M architects + engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, environmental consulting firm seeks a full time or part time Asbestos Investigator. As an Asbestos Investigator, you will be responsible for assisting with sampling, testing and inspections for asbestos surveys, reviewing and understanding site plans, completing asbestos, mold, lead and indoor air quality inspection reports for insurance companies, private industries and school districts. Travel is required for this position and you may be required to use your own vehicle for work related travel including travel to and from job sites.

Requirements

  • Must have “Inspector Certificate” issued by NYSDOL and min 5 years’ experience (Two years’ experience in building survey/hazard assessment for ACM & three years of other documented building survey related experience (qualified to take the Asbestos Investigator exam)); OR College degree and relevant asbestos work experience.
  • Greater than 1 year of experience in the environmental consulting field, specifically industrial hygiene.
  • Current NYC DEP Asbestos Investigator Required.
  • Current NYSDOL certifications for the following:
  • Asbestos Inspector Required.
  • Strong technical skills including field expertise and knowledge of architectural drawings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Client relationship skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • As part of your role, you may be required to work in environments where the use of a respirator is necessary. In such cases, H2M will provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations. Therefore, you will be required to participate in any necessary respirator fit testing, training, and medical evaluations in accordance with OSHA standards and company policy.
  • Travel is required for this position, and you may be required to use your own vehicle for work related travel including travel to and from job sites if an H2M vehicle is not available.
  • Due to the nature of the position, it is expected that you are able to work a flexible schedule which may include nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.

  • Asbestos Project Designer desired.
  • Mold Assessor a plus.
  • Lead EPA lead inspector/risk assessor certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform asbestos, mold and lead surveys on residential and commercial buildings.
  • Providing project monitoring and air sampling, including compliance with on-site field protocols such as chain of custody forms and daily logs.
  • Preparing and reviewing project related reports.
  • Project management of asbestos and lead abatement projects including scheduling field staff, client management, dealing with contractors and ensuring compliance with state and city agencies, a plus.
