About The Position

Our team is seeking music instructors to teach evening and weekend music classes for participants ages 10 and up. The successful candidate will be responsible for the instruction of music programs as outlined by the City of Mississauga to meet the needs of participants and to ensure adequate safety while facilitating the activity. The successful candidate will instruct a high-quality program, requiring practical experience and a high level of knowledge in the instrument(s) they will be teaching. Requirements

  • Minimum 16 years of age or older at the start of employment.
  • Advanced skills using specialized instruments related to programming (guitar, ukelele) and/or general academic qualifications in music.
  • Must hold by employment start date: A valid and current Basic First Aid or Emergency First Aid with CPR C & AED from a recognized WSIB-provider at the employee’s expense.
  • Must hold by employment start date: HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification at the employee's own expense.
  • Must be confident teaching various age groups and skill levels.
  • Experience developing detailed lesson plans.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends at locations throughout the City of Mississauga.
  • A Level 3 – Vulnerable check will be required of the successful candidate, as a condition of employment, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.

Responsibilities

  • Provide music instruction for participants in specific instruments as outlined by the program outline.
  • Prepare and deliver lesson plans in music in a manner appropriate to the audience.
  • Work with groups up to 8 participants.
  • Support the objectives and philosophies of music programs as established by the Recreation and Culture Division through quality instruction and excellent customer and staff relations.
  • Communicate in an effective and timely manner in writing or voicemail with the Program Supervisor all aspects related to facilities, staffing, participants, equipment, supplies or anything that would impact the quality and safe delivery of the program.
  • Complete facility program safety checks before each program starts and report any concerns to the Supervisor.
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of all registered participants throughout the program.
  • Policy and procedure adherence and provide quality customer service and information to participants and other staff.
  • Advise Program Supervisor of any difficulties with participants regarding behaviour, registration, class lists, program content or any other related issues.
  • Incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery where appropriate.
  • Complete report cards and certificates for the participants of the program as required.
  • Prepare a presentation for end of session performance to highlight achievements of the participants.
  • Find and prepare music that is appropriate for the program and matches technical requirements for participants.
